October 4, 1999: Warsaw
Befehlstelle Headquarters 1600x1200 (404 KB)

"At the end of Zelazna Street, at number 103, the Nazis had established the headquarters of the Befehlstelle ["extermination team"] – a unit responsible for transporting Jews to Treblinka between 22 July and 24 September 1942. This building now bears a plaque commemorating thousands of Jews tortured to death in its dungeons." -- A Guide to Jewish Warsaw (©1996 Our Roots. All rights reserved.)
