My Visit To
Poland

October 6, 1999: Bialystok to Suwalki
Grajewo Synagogue 1600x1200 (417 KB)

George tells me that this building, which now serves as a movie theater, used to house the Grajewo Synagogue.

In the old photograph below, I believe that the synagogue is the building at the far right.

Note (July 27 2001): I have recently been in touch with a young man who grew up in Grajewo. He tells me that this building was never a synagogue. He says that the synagogue was destroyed during the war and that this theater was built in its place. However, in addition to what George told me, I have read elsewhere that the synagogue was converted into a theater. I have no way of knowing which version of events is accurate.
