My Visit To
Poland

October 10, 1999: Krakow and Auschwitz

The Fence at Auschwitz
I saw a lot of Krakow yesterday, but there are still a few places I want to see. It's a fun town to walk around, as energizing as Warsaw was dull. I doubt that I'll ever visit Warsaw again, but I definitely would like to come back to Krakow someday.

I've made arrangements through the hotel to hire a car and driver to take me out to Auschwitz this afternoon. It's about 50 miles from Krakow, and public transportation is available – but the dollar appears to be strong against the zloty right now, making luxuries like a private car and driver surprisingly affordable.
