October 10, 1999: Krakow and Auschwitz
Apteka Pod Orlem 1600x1200 (401 KB)

The Museum of National Commemoration at Apteka Pod Orlem
(The Pharmacy under the Sign of the Eagle)

"In the years 1941-1943 this pharmacy was situated within the walls of the Cracow Ghetto. Despite the fact that the Polish population had been completely removed from this territory, the pharmacy was still conducted by its Polish owner, Tadeusz Pankiewicz, together with three assistants. The pharmacy served as an embassy, a diplomatic agency, representing the free world in this walled town behind bars. A permanent exhibition has been organized in the museum, commemorating events which took place in the Ghetto." -- A Guide to Jewish Cracow (©1992 Our Roots. All rights reserved.)
